  1. The 5-second Rule — Do something for just 5 seconds. That is short enough of a time for you to feel like it is easy and free to do, but long enough that you at least start. Starting is often the hardest part, and once you have begun it will be easier to keep going.
  2. The 5-minute Rule — If you can do it in 5 minutes, do it as soon as you think about it. Drop everything else and just do whatever you thought about. This gets it out of your head, decluttering your mind, and opening you up to more productivity for other things.
  3. Write It Down — If you cannot do it in 5 minutes, write down when and where you will do it (or when and where you will make a plan to do it). You can schedule the activity in 5 minutes, leading you back to the second trick, making it also disappear from your cluttered mind.
  4. Do Not Give Reasons/Justifications — Just do it. Do it for no reason. Do it because you said you would. Any reasons and justifications just allow excuses in. You said you would do it, right? What more do you need?
  5. Drink More Water — And, ideally, drink less coffee. You need to get more oxygen in your mind and you do this the best way by making your blood hold a higher oxygen content, which it does through more water. This will keep your mind sharper. Bonus Points for mental foods, such as blueberries.
