A Short List of Tips for Better Sleep
2 min readOct 27, 2024
If you want to get a good nights sleep here are the best tips I have gathered from countless different sources including sleep psychology, successful CEOs and self-experience:
- Do not eat anything big 2 hours before going to bed. Your stomach is empty after about 2 hours, which is when it is using the least amount of energy and producing the least amount of activity.
- Take some deep breaths and relax. The most common meditation technique to relax works amazingly well before going to sleep.
- Avoid all electronics at least 45 minutes before going to bed. Even if it is a book on your cell phone, just avoid it all as the screens take a lot of energy, concentration and brain activity and will make your eyes have to work hard and actively throughout.
- Make sure to set your alarm at a good time in your sleep cycle. Usual sleep cycles go through deep and light sleep. You want to hit a light phase when you wake up, which happens every 90 minutes on average, although it might be slightly different for you. Test it out and find your own rhythm and set the alarm for that time to make you feel well rested once you wake up.
- End the day with positive thoughts. Be grateful at the end of the day and you will find your sleep to be a lot more pleasant as well.
- Listen to calming music for 5 minutes. The waves of the ocean, rain falling or the wind rustling the leaves is what works best for me.
