Control Your Mind: Overpowering Negative Thoughts The Right Way
Imagine you are interacting with a child.
This child is incredibly good at convincing you to do things for it getting itself spoiled in the process.
When it wants some candy it will throw an emotional tantrum until you concede your point, when it wants to stay inside instead of going out with friends you stay in and when you encounter something scary it pulls with all its might to keep you from going further towards it.
This child has your best interests in mind, and has protected you from many things in the past, but in the end it is still only a child.
It doesn’t truly know what is best, and doesn’t truly have the power to control you.
You simply allow for it’s suggestions and pleas to change your mind.
However, in the end, you are the adult, the one responsible and the one that makes the choice.
The child above is our mind.
The only difference is that it is much more subtle than a regular child.
We often don’t notice our minds whispering sweet lies into our ears or that we follow its advice without having thought about it.
