Here Is Something That Needs To Be Said About Happiness
There are a couple of things about Happiness that everyone needs to hear.
Happiness doesn’t come out of nowhere.
Emotions are a reaction to the world outside and they have a reason for being there.
You cannot change your reaction but you can change what kind of situations you find yourself in.
Don’t believe me? Watch your favorite stand-up comedian and try to be sad.
It’s not that complicated.
You do what you enjoy; that will make you happy.
Everything in the middle are steps you do not need to take.
Don’t enjoy your job? Search for a new one! Sad with your current life? Make some changes! Feeling sad because you’re alone? Invest in finding more friends!
It’s not always easy, but it is simple.
Happiness begets Happiness.
Ever notice how happy people seem to have a large following? For some reason people just gravitate towards them, respect them and want to be their friends; do you think that will make them sadder?
On the other hand, people that are sad, give off a negative vibe or are obviously down on their life seem to repel people as no one wants to deal with their negativity, increasing it even further.
If you are happy you will become happier, so find a way to smile, even if you do not feel like it, find a silver-lining when you do not see one and get yourself in a good mood and happiness will find you.
It’s all a matter of perspective. “Whatever will I do?!? I just lost my job!!! I will die alone and hungry in the streets… my life is over…” “Oh wow! What a crazy opportunity!! I just lost my job and now I have to find a new one! F*ck me that will be tough but let’s go!”
Same scenario, different mindset, different emotions.
Understand that nothing in this world is truly or innately black or white. Depending on how you look at it it can be as pitch-black as an abyss or as shining white as a star, either one will be true for you, so what will it be?
You can choose to be happy right now.
Sounds crazy, I know, but try it: “I choose to be happy NOW!”
Repeat that line 3–5 times and smile bigger each time and see what happens.
Of course it won’t bring you forever out of your depression, but it does help.
Look, the main point is that you have a ton of power, opportunities and abilities to change your emotional state right now.
You can jump up and down, act as though you just won the biggest prize in the world or seek out joy in movies, videos or blocks of text.
You can do that at any time you want so why does it always feel like you let your emotions get the better of you?
Being happy is not rocket science but it isn’t first grade math either. You do have to do something and work on it to get it, but it will not be the most difficult thing you’ve done.
