The simple answer is this: Intense discipline.

Not only do you need to adjust your sleep schedule to a very weird rhythm, you also need to spend time very focused on your other areas of life.

To stop yourself from having a mental breakdown you need to have balance in your life. That means spending time on relaxing activities, doing something fun and taking care of your relationships as well.

Let us look at this from a logical perspective: The most time-efficient sleep schedule you can have allows you to be functional for 22 hours in a day.

Taking away the 18 hours of studying you would still have 4 hours to take care of everything else.

This sleep schedule consists of you sleeping for 20 minutes every 4 hours. Meaning that you are awake for 3 hours and 40 minutes, then you sleep for 20 minute (also known as the Uberman cycle link)

The problem with this is that you need to be 100% exact. If you miss just one 20 minute cycle you will feel like you missed an entire night of sleep. Also, this schedule is by far the hardest thing to get used to.

It will take you 30 days of being very tired before you get even close to used to it.
