Honesty Is Best: Destructive Lies We Tell Ourselves And How To Combat Them

The truth is: Everybody lies.

We lie all the time, which is fine on normal days because most of them are tiny, little, white lies not worth paying much attention to.

However the lies we tell ourselves, even if small, can affect us more than we realize.

“It’s fine.”

Is it though? At this point you should be well aware enough that, whatever it is you are thinking about, is not fine. Either it is great or it sucks, but it is not fine!

Saying this often takes us away from reality, because the truth is likely much harder to deal with. That being said, being honest here is far better. Yes, it may hurt, but it at least gives you a chance to deal with it.

When things are not fine do not pretend they are, for it does no one a greater disservice than yourself.

“I can sleep for 5 more minutes.”

Of course we can… but it’s not going to be easier then nor will we want to stand up any more in 5 minutes. Why do we make it this difficult on ourselves? Either we should set the alarm to later and sleep in or we should just get up. Things don’t have to be so complicated if we could just be honest.
