How Do You Find Yourself?

As children we are all truly ourselves. I would consider this the time we have mostly “found” ourselves.

But it is not something that usually lasts.

As time moves on in life it becomes harder and harder to stay true to oneself.

With more conditions placed on love, more responsibilities in our lives and less time to freely enjoy the things we enjoy it becomes harder and harder to truly be oneself openly.

We change ourselves more and more to be loved, avoid showing our true colors to make due with our responsibilities and spend the time we have often chasing joy or leaving things undone we would have usually loved to do.

Instead of running around screaming in joy we understand that to receive love we have to be civilized and do well in life.

Instead of watching cartoons all day and playing outside we sit down and do the work we are responsible for.

And instead of climbing the highest trees, chasing our hobbies, or doing whatever we want to outside we blind ourselves with TV and video games.

It is all of this that puts chain after chain on who we used to be.

Over time we chained ourselves to a person we never wanted to become.
