Before we go into this let’s make one thing clear:

Not all stress is bad.

The saying “ Being stressed out” for example, implies that there is a limit to how much stress we can handle and we have taken on everything we can already; we are out of the capacity to handle stress.

Being stressed in this case, or having a very difficult, negative, mentally straining stress is also not something desirable.

However, if the stress is acute and relieves itself in a short period of time, then it can actually feel good!

For example, you find out you have to make an important call. This stresses you in that moment but you decide to get it over with as fast as possible and dial.

10 minutes later the call is over and it went amazing. You feel that relief of the stress disappearing in addition to the excitement of having had an amazing call and this makes you feel incredible.

In this scenario the stress added more than it took away!

The problem with stress is chronic or long-lasting stress.

Now, did you pay attention?

To rid yourself of stress in your life you have to tackle every source of stress as soon as you can. Tackling the problems in your life does not mean instantly solving them! It means progressing towards a solution, even if that progress is slow.

If you did, you will already understand a big part on how to get rid of this stress.

And before you get all riled up about the difficulty of these sources, allow me to make one thing clear.

Let’s say you find out that you are not making enough money to support your family anymore. The economy is bad, cuts had to be made, something happened and you are not short on money.

What will make you feel better is when you actively sit yourself down and develop a plan of action to deal with this beast.

The longer you leave this problem on its own the more stress it will give you.

It will turn from a small beast into a gigantic monstrosity give enough time.

It doesn’t have to be a perfect plan and it doesn’t have to go right straight away. All it needs is to be present and be followed.

As long as you progress to a solution you will not feel stressed, but you have to actively know you are progressing!

The keys points to get rid of stress are:

If you just do what you’ve always done, hoping things will get better on their own, or if you do something expecting it to work out without checking up on it, it will slap you in the face as the stress backfires and actually grows.

That is all.

To prevent that I am going to give you the key points to get rid of stress:

  1. Identifying the source.
  2. Identifying the solution/Figuring out what would make you feel better.
  3. Dividing the solution into simple steps.
  4. Taking the steps.
  5. Checking in on your progress.
  6. Adjusting/re-doing steps 1–5 if you see that the current process isn’t progressing you towards the solution.

You do not have to solve stress to make it go away, do not have to change your entire mindset or do anything extreme.

All you need is to act on it and take steps to correct the source of your stress.

As long as you are progressing through your actions, the stress will never stand a chance.
