Make A Choice: How To Become More Decisive
3 min readJan 25, 2023
- Can You Make A Choice? First of all you have to look at whether or not you can even make a choice. Basically this means becoming aware of the fact that you can decide. If you have no power to make a choice then the only decision you can make is whether or not to lean into the situation.
- Take Responsibility. The step would be to own up to the possible consequences of your choice. Most people, in an attempt to avoid all consequences, will never make a choice so they have an excuse. That being said, there are also consequences for not making a choice.
- The Bigger Picture. Always try to remind yourself what the bigger picture is. Your choices are going to be vastly different if you chose to hang out with friends to have fun or to strengthen your relationship with them. Keep your goal in mind or else someone will push theirs on you and then you will end up not knowing what to decide.
- Make Quicker Choices. You do not need longer to make a choice, you need longer to convince yourself that it is the right choice. If you really need to take some time then take it, but even then it should take you no longer than an hour to make a choice. Sleeping on it is only helpful if you do the work to identify your choice beforehand; otherwise it is nothing more than an avoidance mechanism.
