Regain Control — 6 Tips To Becoming More Assertive
#1 — Know What You Want — Before you ever go into a situation you need to become aware of your intention. What do you hope to gain from this?
Do you want to make friends? Do you want to practice a Skill? Do you want to be liked or do you have a completely different desire?
When you know what you want you can set a course for it. This avoids you ending up with unwanted commitments and promises and increases the chances you get what you want as you are going straight towards it and do not get sidetracked by whatever comes in the moment.
Your Intention will define your situation.
#2 — Know What You Will And Will Not Accept — Set clear boundaries for what you will and will not accept from others, no matter who they are. These need to be set in stone boundaries that you defend at any cost and set before the situation arises.
If you do not set up boundaries you will give more than you want to, regretting it later, and get less than you want to, feeling cheated. That’s not the fault of the other person. It’s your own for not defining what you do and do not accept.
