Some Small Things That May Bring You Joy

  • Pets — Having my cat randomly approach me, reach up, and tap me on the arm as I work to let her on my lap always brings a smile to my face.
  • Cuddles — With my partner or friends or pets. Any bit of hugging/being hugged is lovely and releases positive hormones.
  • Compliments — Unprompted ones are always better, but sometimes I will go out and ask people for a little pick-me-up. I often get more than I hoped for and am usually surprised by how positively others think of me.
  • A Good Coffee — Some coffees just taste bad, but a good one, at the right time in the morning, is an underrated pleasure. It creates a little, and often much needed, moment of relaxation.
  • Music That Hits Just Right — I especially love the moments where I get that little shiver down my back of listening to the right melody or lyrics in the right moment where it truly resonates.
  • Having A Satisfying Bathroom Break — You know the kind I am talking about.
  • Being Childish — Whether that is because I do something childish or because I interact with something childish, doesn’t matter, as it releases the stress nonetheless. I try to prompt this with various nostalgic kids show tunes in my playlist.
