Think of your favorite superhero story.

We have the hero, often a young protagonist that ends up coming to some sort of power not of their own choosing, that goes on to take the responsibility of that power to defeat some evil.

This power makes them fight crime, injustice, or what have you, and they can never lay it down for the fear of their morality gnawing away at them.

While, for most of us, that power sounds like something very desirable, most of these heroes yearn to simply lead a normal life before long.

They wish they could lay their power down so they could enjoy a life without the troubles of the responsibility it brings.

For it’s the responsibility, the knowing that they can fight for something others can’t, that keeps them going. They cannot turn away.

It’s that responsibility that pushes them to fight daily, to have an out with the villains, to risk their lives and to abandon the peaceful life they used to have.

Now, successful people aren’t always heroes, but they are not so different when it comes to the responsibility.

Many successful people feel a responsibility to succeed for the same reason a hero may choose to fight.
