The Ego is the little voice in your mind that protects your self from the world.

It’s the voice that protects you from feeling lost, from losing the value you’ve gained so far, and from everything that who you are connects to.

We felt valuable, gained positive reinforcement, and felt more meaningful in this world because of the things we did and who we were.

That is what our Ego tries to protect.

Consider, for example, a person whose entire life was shaped around the idea that they were nice.

This person gained a lot of positive reinforcement from being nice.

The relationships in their life happened because they were nice, their job opportunities increased because of their niceness, and it allowed them to feel better than others and to stand out because of this trait.

Their life was created around this pillar of niceness, and their ego tries to protect it.

For should that pillar get damaged or destroyed, it risks everything connected to it.

If that person found out that their friends or coworkers or boss or partner found them anything but nice, it would destroy their perception of the world.
