The Golden Nuggets: Which Books Can Give You The Best Life Lessons?

Reading books is like going out during the gold rush.

You pick up a book, like a sieve, and sift through hundreds of pages in hundreds of books for that one golden nugget of advice that will change your life.

Which book will have that golden nugget is hard to tell, for you need to be in the right place of mind at the right time to find the gold.

I have found golden nuggets in books that had no right to have any, and found nothing but dirt and rocks in books others told me were gold mines.

Sometimes I even come to re-read a book only to find more nuggets of wisdom or find that the nuggets I found before were not as shiny as I thought they once were.

It is for this reason that I learned to pick my books by what sounds best to me in the moment.

I always keep a long list of books I want to get around to reading, and whenever I finish a book I look through the list to see what speaks to me the most and pick the first best title.

Some of my favorite have been:

  • No one is special. Life will not be a hero or fairy tale. I am not made for greatness and that is freeing. — From The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck by Mark Manson
