The Hardest Lesson To Learn: You Cannot Change The Past

The past is what it is.

Every mistake you made is etched into eternity with no way to change it anymore.

You only had one chance, and you messed up.

We love to think that we can make up for our mistakes, or that we can correct wrongs, or that a second chance will allow us to do something different, but those are all just ways to deny reality.

The reality is that you cannot rewrite what has been written, you can only change what will be written.

There is no making up for past actions, you cannot correct what has been wronged, and there are no second chances to any moment.

You can only make different actions today than you did yesterday.

Those actions can lead you to a better life, they may even “right some wrongs” in a sense, but they will never be able to erase or change the past.

Nothing can remove the mistakes you’ve made.

The actions you take can only make the mistakes weigh less heavily, but the past will still be the past, and the present will still be the present.

What we have now is a result of the actions that we took.
