The Mirror To You: Why Relationships Can Be So Valuable
“I’ve heard it said that people come into our lives for a reason, bringing something we must learn, and we are led to those who help us most to grow if we let them and we help them in return.” — Wicked, Stephen Schwartz
Now this may be a bit overdramatic, as we can always find a good lesson in anything, but there may also be some truth to this song from the Wicked Musical.
If you look back at your own life you will likely have found that every person in it taught you something.
What that depended on was who you were at that moment and what you needed, which is something said in Self-Improvement a lot:
“What we see in the world around us is just a reflection of what is inside of us.” — Sharon Gannon
And Psychology supports this concept, for it is through things like Confirmation Bias that we see only what we want to believe, even if other things exist.
In this way, relationships with people have the potential to help us see more than our limited point of view. But for that we must allow ourselves to be vulnerable with them.
The people in our life can help us see more than what our mind limits us to and show us more of what is inside of us.
