People that try to make themselves look good by putting others down do this for the same reason we all do things: To be happy.

Of course it’s easy to label such people as simply Narcissistic, Bullies, Sociopaths, Insecure and so on, but doing that ignores the struggles those people are going through.

I know this sounds backwards but this is how they learned to be happy.

They may have modeled their parents, may have not found happiness in anything until they put others down, or maybe had to fight for their happiness so long that this seemed like a natural thing for them to do.

The world conditioned them in some way that positive feelings only arose when they were above others.

We can discuss why this happened for years and still likely never know, but almost everyone that puts others down will, in some way, do this because this is the only way they know to feel happiness.

Now, for some this is a defensive mechanism, for others it is a way to gain something they have to little of in their life, but it all nets them some form of happiness, confidence, self-worth or love.

When people get to put others down they feel better themselves, which generally speaks for a lack inside of them that they do not know…
