The Secret To Great Time Management — How To Get An Extra 1300 Hours Out Of Every Year
Indulge me for a second and join me in an exercise.
Take out a pen and a piece of paper or open up a new document on your computer.
There are a few questions I want you to answer, and I will answer them with you in an example.
First of all: How many hours do you sleep a day?
For the example we will say 8 hours a day. Multiplying this number by 7 for each day in the week we get to 56 hours.
Next I want you to write down how many hours a week you work. For the example we will use an average 40 hour work week.
Now we will add travel time to work. In this case we will use 5 hours a week.
Now add a generous 3 hours for bathroom breaks and meals, bringing us an extra 21 hours.
Then add the rounded up number of hours you think you spend time with family, friends and on hobbies.
For this example we will make this another 3 hours a day, or 21 hours over the week.
Finally, add them all together and subtract them from 168. What number do you get?
In the example above, having a very generous time, we still come out to 168–56–40–5–21–21 = 25 hours.
