The Ultimate Aim Of Life & An Alternative Point Of View
The only ultimate aim of life is the Survival of the species.
That’s it.
That is what we evolved for, what we were “born to do” and what nature had intended for us.
It is the main reason why we want to conserve energy (be lazy and get fat), why sex sells so much (as it is a primary motivator) and why most of us are very lazy beyond that.
Working hard, reaching success, being happy, living a fulfilled life, having a purpose, cause, or meaning are all secondary.
They may be something we want to be the aim of life, but something that millions of years of evolution would disagree with.
If you look at any other living organism, that is the point to it’s life.
The only reason we humans think we are special is because we can contemplate our own existence, which does not mean that the meaning of it suddenly changed.
We want to survive and for our genes to have the highest chance of survival.
That is all there is to it.
… at least on paper.
But before we diverge from that let’s look at what that actually means, because while may sound depressingly bland, it is rather liberating.
