The Vortex Of Self-Discipline: Why Feeling Good Is Ruining Your Life
When you do not do what you said you would, when you procrastinate and when you cheap out on the commitments you make to others, you are habitualizing procrastination and indecisiveness.
As soon as you skip out on this habit of self-discipline, you are making the opposite a habit.
Understand that you are constantly learning and your mind is constantly adjusting to best serve you.
But your mind does not differentiate between good and bad, it just serves, meaning that if you train procrastination, your mind helps you along the way!
The problem here is that there is an innate desire for gratification inside all of us; especially instant gratification.
There are many reasons why we rush for immediate gratification (Ex: 10 Reasons We Rush for Immediate Gratification), but it mostly boils down to us wanting to have it easy.
By nature, we are a lazy species.
Ideally we want to sit on our couch all day, eat chips, and watch TV while occasionally worrying about reproducing.
That’s all our bodies want.
It would be a life without doing much, exerting any energy, and a life that has a high chance of survival.
