To Be Yourself Or Not To Be

Many of us have tried being ourselves before.

We let go of who we thought we were pretending to be and just let the world see us for who we were.

But often it did not work out.

We lost what we wanted to gain, or stopped our progress and sacrificed too much.

Everyone told us to just “be yourself” but it sometimes just does not work for what we want.

And when “being yourself” doesn’t work we go back to being someone else.

We forcefully try to get what we want, paddling our canoe against the current with all our might instead of letting it take us wherever it goes!

For some people this works brilliantly; they create a whole life based around a personality they chose.

Success, friendships, relationships of all sorts and even their own happiness is built upon this persona they created.

As long as you can be okay with never letting anyone too close or revealing too much of yourself, then this life can work for you too.

But to get it you have to constantly fight where your character would normally take you and paddle against the stream.

Most people that try this get swept up by the current and get utterly destroyed by the rapids.
