What Am I Doing For Others And Should You Do More?

I do absolutely nothing for others.

Now, technically that is true, but theoretically it is a little bit more complicated.

For instance, I do write a lot.

Each of my posts is read by thousands of people and they are all in the realm of Self-Improvement.

One could say that this is a benefit for others, but I write because I want to, which is a rather selfish thing to do and has nothing to do with benefitting others.

Now, that would mean that ones intention matters most, right?

But if that is the case, then we should all do what is objectively best for people and leave our own desires completely out of the equation if we wanted to help others.

Problem is: The simple act of wanting to help others already prevents us from doing that.

This is the basic premise of the philosophical idea that there is no such thing as a selfless act.

I won’t go further into this at this stage, but I had to address it to show you that everything I think I do for others is, by default, a selfish act, which means I technically do absolutely nothing for other people, no matter how much I believe I do or what my intention may be.
