What Is The Most Important Skill One Needs Today?

The ability not to lie to ourselves. Also known as Integrity.

This skill holds the most value in todays world for the following reasons:

Doing what we say we will has become more important than ever.

Too many of us say “yes” to everything people ask of us and “no” to everything that would propel our own lives forward.

We overcommit, then tend to underdeliver, and end up having no time to work on our own problems or dreams.

In doing so we overwhelm ourselves with fake commitments and real problems, and even if we do manage to find time for everything eventually, we are never happy because it is never our own things we do.

What makes this worse is that we do this so often, and it feels so bad, that we begin to lie, cheat and trick ourselves, and others, to lower the commitments we did make in order to feel better about ourselves.

Essentially, we say we will do something to feel good about ourselves, often pushing the ideas of what we can do upward to be perceived even better.

We then commit to too many or too grand of things, lose the will to do them when we realize we overcommitted, then justify, lie or cheat ourselves out of the commitments in order not to receive any negative…
