Why A Change In Your Routine May Overwhelm You And What You Can Do About It
Our routines are what make up much of who we are.
They are comfort zones, for better and for worse.
We feel a sense of security in these routines, even if they are bad routines, and feel so comfortable that we do not want things to change.
For, if something changes, it could end up worse.
“Better the devil you know than the angel you don’t.” — Hama Tuma
This quote is popular because it is true for most of us, even when most of us can see the problem with it right away.
Most of us would rather continue to lead a bad life, than to go out there and try something we do not know.
This is (at least in part) why people stay in the same abusive relationships, why people would rather complain about their jobs for decades than find a new one, and why so few of us actually change.
In the grand scheme of things, our entire lives have begun to revolve around this principle of being safe rather than being happy.
No one takes risks anymore because they would rather be “safe than sorry”.
And that is totally fine as long as you are not going to be sorry anyway.
