Why Changing Your Environment Serves No Purpose
There’s a widely spread story about Javelin Throwing World Champion Julius Yego.
Julius had no Gym to train in in Kenya. He had no coach, no equipment and nothing else in his environment to support his dream.
Yet, from the little glimpse of it he got in school, Julius wanted to become a pro-athlete more than anything.
And so, he did what he could.
Starting in 2009 he began to travel to a local internet café to watch YouTube videos about throwing javelins. These videos substituted for the coach he did not have.
He then went outside to collect sticks that were about the size and weight of the javelins in those videos and started to practice what he learned online.
2 years later the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federation) recognized him and allowed him to go to the All-Africa Games, becoming the first ever champion in his event and establishing a new national record.
Upon hearing his results the IAAF sponsored a trip to Europe, where he was to be coached by trainers for the next 6 months as he was selected to appear in the 2012 London Olympics.
Julius did not allow his environment to dictate his habits.
