Why It Is So Hard To Own Your Mistakes & How To Do It Right
Taking responsibility for our mistakes is hard because it means that we understand it was something we did or that was within us that was at fault.
We were not as kind as we thought we were, were not as smart, did not think things through or simply acted differently to what we wanted.
We made a mistake. This situation was on us.
Now, owning up to mistakes is not hard when it is something that has no effect or bad repercussions, but most of the time we think our mistakes do and that makes it so much harder.
We think that what we did could cost us and so we try to hide from the mistakes we made.
When it involves other people we want to save the relationship, thinking that they will think less of us with this mistake.
When it is in business or our work we become worried over our job, the finances or the livelihood that might be at stake.
And when it involves ourselves we even make up lies and excuses so we do not tarnish the image of who we think ourselves to be.
We may not be worried about these things consciously, but on a subconscious level we want to secure ourselves as much as possible.
